Update with link to video of Lorelei's appearance before Finals game 2

Lorelei completed her tenth chemo treatment today and is sound asleep as I type. She'll go without eating for a few days and should begin to feel human again by Monday.

It breaks my heart to watch her have to go through this misery; I'd so readily take her place. But it also warms my heart to see the wonderful young woman she is becoming as she travels this journey. Nothing can adequately explain the conflict inside of me. I draw comfort and encouragement from the assurance that all of this earthly life is just preparation for eternity.  We've got work to do while we are here.

Lorelei met a wonderful young man today who has been battling this same disease since February.  He's begun radiation already because he had fewer chemo rounds to complete and his oncologist followed a different chemo regimin. They enjoyed talking with each other as nobody else in their two little lives knows the new normal they each face.  Even then, it's very fascinating to see how differently two patients with similar diagnoses are treated.  He's a year younger than Lorelei and is being treated at Children's hospital.  Asking him questions about his treatment confirmed even more Lorelei's satisfaction to be treated as an adult.  She much prefers to know all the facts.  Battling an enemy she knows with weapons she understands is definitely better for her.

Lorelei was excited to learn she will likely get a tattoo (albeit very tiny) when she begins radiation.  We're debating on whether or not to turn it into a thunderbolt!  No matter what, it will serve as another visible reminder of the journey. She'll be so happy to be through with chemotherapy and on to radiation which should be much easier.  If all things work out with the timing, she might be able to complete radiation before her eighteenth birthday; the last day of radiation could potentially be her first day of college.  That could happen if the radiological oncologist agrees to begin her treatment one week earlier than normal and to do only four weeks instead of five.  But we won't know the final plan till she has her PET scan after that last chemo round.  It will be wonderful to ring the bell in the chemo infusion room on July 12!  That's something we will video and watch over and over.

Here's a side note about God's wonderful timing.  I've been needing to have a particular surgery for a little while.  For various reasons it has not worked out to have it earlier.  But the surgeon's office called today and has scheduled my surgery for July 16.  I'll be bedridden for about a week after the surgery and it works out perfectly to have it four days after Lorelei's last chemo since by then she'll need me less.  And if she begins radiation on July 23 as we hope, I will have had my full 7 days to recover.  I didn't ask for this particular surgery date; it's just the first available one.  Isn't that amazing?  I love getting little glimpses of God's perfect timing in all of this.

Here's the link to the video that ran on the local news last night. Many who were unable to watch it live have asked for this link.

This second link is a little different; it is the story that ran the following morning.

The photo included with this story is one that Lorelei hates but I love it.  I snapped it during her appearance on the KOCO pre-game show.  It was just a moment of pure joy for her.  It's moments like this one yesterday that get her through the tough moments like right now.

Thanks for your continued support and prayers. It's been an exhausting week and I'm ready to crawl into bed and shut out the world!

Psalm 91:14-16

New International Version (NIV)

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
