No chemo today--platelet count is too low

After an exciting birthday yesterday Lorelei got up early today to go to ICIO to have lab work.  We were praying her white blood counts would be high enough for her to then go over to Baptist Hospital to check in for the week for another round of RICE chemo. Her white counts were high enough (3.9) but her platelet count was only 77 and they want it to be at least 100 before beginning a round of this chemo. So, we'll return Wednesday morning for another blood test, and if her platelets have come up we can begin chemo then. Please pray they do come up. We were told there's nothing we can do (i.e. special diet, etc.) to help them come up; her bone marrow just needs to do the work.

Lorelei chose to see this news as a blessing. The first words out of her mouth when she learned she wouldn't be hospitalized today were "Hey, Brad doesn't have football practice on Mondays!  Can I go to Tahlequah?" She really likes that boy. So, she is Tahlequah bound right now. She should arrive just about the time he gets out of class. Those two treasure every minute they can spend together. It's been so difficult for Brad to have to be away while Lorelei goes through this. But we admire Brad's commitment to God and his team. He knows God has placed him where he is to be a minister to his teammates. It's a real sacrifice for him to stick to that when his heart would rather be in OKC while Lorelei fights for her life. They are such a precious couple and we believe God has big plans for them together. (And he didn't even mind that she went to the movies with Kevin Durant for her 18th birthday instead of with him!)

Psalm 91:14-16

New International Version (NIV)

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
